Find your sunshine
Seville, Gran Canaria and Limassol are the warmest choices for April, with daytime highs of 22°C. That is a welcome step up from London's 14°C, but nowhere in the ranking gets above 25°C: think comfortable warmth rather than summer heat. Choose Seville for a shorter flight, the Canaries for milder evenings, or Cyprus for warm coastal days. The main catch is the sea, which still feels cool for leisurely swimming.

Direct flights under four hours from Gatwick, ranked by daytime high.
Seville leads the table with 22°C by day and 11°C at night and 7 rainy days (2 h 42 min from London). Gran Canaria leads with 22°C by day and 17°C at night, a 19°C sea and 4 rainy days (4 h 24 min from London). Limassol leads with 22°C by day and 14°C at night, a 18°C sea and 4 rainy days (4 h 48 min from London). La Gomera leads with 21°C by day and 18°C at night, a 20°C sea and 2 rainy days (4 h 24 min from London). Ayia Napa leads with 21°C by day and 15°C at night, a 18°C sea and 3 rainy days (4 h 48 min from London).
Warm rather than hot (20-25°C): Seville 22°C, Gran Canaria 22°C, Limassol 22°C, La Gomera 21°C, Ayia Napa 21°C, Crete 21°C and 9 more. For scale, London averages 14°C in April.
Seville gives you the joint-highest daytime temperature, 22°C, with a flight time of 2 h 42 min. It suits travellers who want warmth without spending so long in the air, but nights fall to 11°C and April has 7 rainy days, so pack a jacket and leave room for wet-weather plans. Valencia has a shorter flight at 2 h 24 min and a daytime high of 21°C, though its 15°C sea makes it a poor choice for swimming-led holidays. Albufeira offers similar daytime warmth with a 2 h 54 min flight, but its 16°C sea and 7 rainy days favour time outdoors between showers rather than a holiday built around getting in the water.
Gran Canaria is the clearest fit if daytime warmth and comfortable evenings matter equally: highs reach 22°C and nights stay at 17°C, with 4 rainy days. The trade-off against Seville is a longer flight of 4 h 24 min. La Gomera is slightly cooler by day at 21°C, but its 18°C nights, 20°C sea and 2 rainy days make it appealing if you dislike chilly evenings. Tenerife shares that 20°C sea temperature, though it has 5 rainy days. For the fewest rainy days among these leading choices, favour Fuerteventura: it has 1, alongside 20°C days and a 19°C sea. These are better choices for avoiding rain than finding genuinely warm swimming water.
Limassol matches the leading daytime high of 22°C, with 4 rainy days, making it a sensible choice if warmth matters more than flight time. Its 4 h 48 min flight is longer than the Canary options listed, while the sea is cooler at 18°C. Ayia Napa trades a little daytime warmth for fewer rainy days: 21°C and 3 respectively, with the same sea temperature and flight time. Crete suits travellers happy with mild days rather than warm water, pairing 21°C highs with a 17°C sea and 6 rainy days. Fethiye is harder to favour on weather alone: its 20°C days come with 9 rainy days and 10°C nights, so waterproofs and evening layers deserve luggage space.
A little more detail
Plain answers, grounded in the averages.
None of the 78 destinations we track in Europe average 25°C in April. The warmest are Seville (22°C), Gran Canaria (22°C), Limassol (22°C), La Gomera (21°C), Ayia Napa (21°C).
London averages a daytime high of 13.5°C in April, so the warmest destinations on this page are at least 9°C warmer.
La Gomera and Tenerife have the warmest sea among the leading destinations listed, at 20°C. That may suit a refreshing dip, but not everyone will find it comfortable for lingering. No destination in the ranking has a sea temperature of 22°C or above.
Fuerteventura has the fewest rainy days among the leading choices, at 1, followed by La Gomera at 2. Their daytime highs are 20°C and 21°C, so choosing less rain means accepting slightly less daytime warmth than the warmest options.
Pack an evening layer, especially for Seville and Valencia, where nights fall to 11°C, or Fethiye at 10°C. La Gomera is a better fit if you dislike cool evenings, with nights at 18°C. Daytime warmth does not mean you can leave every jumper behind.
