Winter into spring: layers first, warmer afternoons later

December, January and February are the least suitable months for a sun-focused break. Daytime averages sit at 14°C to 15°C, nights are cool, and each month has 10 rain days, so pack a waterproof jacket and keep outdoor plans flexible. March improves to 17°C by day, but its 7°C nights and sea at 17°C make it more suitable for walking than lingering in the water. April's 20°C afternoons offer a gentler warmth, though evenings still call for a layer. May is the turning point for lighter clothing, with days at 25°C and longer sunshine. The catch is that the sea averages 20°C: pleasant for some swimmers, brisk for others. Spring suits travellers who prefer being active without the strongest summer heat.

Summer: reliable sunshine, with a midday heat trade-off

June is a good choice if you want summer weather without Fethiye's highest temperatures. Days average 29°C, the sea reaches 24°C, and rain is relatively infrequent. July and August push daytime averages to 33°C, with nights at 22°C, so don't expect evenings to provide much cooling. Plan more active outings for the morning or later in the day, leaving midday for shade and a slower pace. Both months average just 2 rain days, making them well suited to holidays centred on swimming and time outdoors. August has the warmest sea at 28°C. Light clothing, sun protection and regular drinks matter more here than extra layers.

Autumn: warm seas outlast the strongest heat

September keeps much of summer's warmth, with 30°C days and a 27°C sea, but slightly cooler nights make the heat less persistent than in August. It is a strong choice for swimming, though afternoons can still feel hot. October offers a more comfortable balance for mixing time in the water with walking: days average 25°C and the sea stays at 24°C. Pack a layer for evenings and allow for more rain than in summer. November is a different proposition, with 20°C days, 10°C nights and less sunshine. Its 22°C sea may still appeal to keen swimmers, but it suits a flexible break better than a holiday built entirely around beach weather.
