Morocco weather by month

Spring and autumn are the better starting points for a city-focused Morocco trip; summer suits travellers who prioritise beach weather and can handle heat. Daytime temperatures reach 34°C in July and August, compared with 24°C in April and 27°C in October. The catch is that warm air does not mean warm sea water. Winter remains an option for daytime exploring, but evenings need a different wardrobe from afternoons.

The shape of the year

Morocco warms steadily through spring, reaches its hottest spell in July and August, then eases into a milder autumn. January brings daytime temperatures of 19°C but nights of 7°C, so winter suits travellers happy to swap light daytime clothing for warmer evening layers. March and April offer a more comfortable balance for spending time outdoors than midsummer. By June, daytime temperatures reach 30°C, making shade and breaks around midday more important. September stays hot, while October is a useful compromise for city days. Rain is possible throughout the year, but wet days are less frequent in summer than in winter and early spring.

Marrakech and Agadir: a smaller gap than you might expect

Marrakech is the warmer destination on the annual daytime average, at 26.2°C, but Agadir is close behind at 25.7°C. That narrow gap is not a strong reason to choose between them on temperature alone, and it does not mean their weather matches month by month. For a city-focused stay in Marrakech, spring or autumn is the more practical starting point than the hottest part of summer. The same broad seasonal timing is useful when considering Agadir, rather than assuming it will always be much cooler. Keep your plans flexible around midday in hot weather, and pack layers for cooler-season evenings.

When to go for beach weather

For a beach-focused trip, late summer into early autumn gives the best balance of warm days and the year's highest sea temperatures. Sea temperatures reach 20°C from July through October, so even at their warmest they may feel fresh rather than comfortably warm to everyone. July and August bring the strongest daytime heat; September and October are better starting points if you want less heat away from the water. June is drier, with 1 rain day, but the sea is cooler at 19°C. Spring can suit sitting outside, though April's 17°C sea makes it less appealing if swimming is the main reason for travelling.

Morocco weather FAQs

Plain answers, grounded in the averages.

When is the best time to visit Morocco?

Weighing warmth, low rainfall and sunshine across 2 destinations, the best months for Morocco are September, May, April. July is the hottest month (average high 34.0°C) and January the coolest (18.8°C).

How many months is Morocco over 25°C?

6 months average a daytime high of 25°C or more across our Morocco destinations.

Which is the hottest place in Morocco?

Over the year, Marrakech has the highest average daytime temperature of the 2 Morocco destinations we track (26.2°C averaged across all months).

Which months are best for a city break?

March, April, May and October are sensible starting points. Daytime temperatures range from 23°C to 27°C across those months, making extended time outdoors more manageable than in July and August. Bring a layer for evenings, especially in early spring.

Is Morocco warm enough for a winter beach holiday?

Winter is better suited to mild daytime weather than warm-water swimming. December has daytime temperatures of 20°C and a sea temperature of 18°C; January is cooler still. You may enjoy time outside, but pack warm evening layers and do not expect summer-like bathing conditions.

When is rain least likely to interrupt outdoor plans?

June and July have the fewest rain days, at 1 each. August and September follow with 2. That makes summer a practical choice for mostly outdoor plans, although the heat can be a bigger constraint than rain, particularly around midday.
