Daytime averages rise from 26°C in May to 29°C in June and 32°C in July, so the trade-off is hotter afternoons rather than a warmer sea. Spring is comfortable for spending time outdoors, autumn keeps much of summer's warmth, and winter offers mild days with cooler evenings and more chance of rain.

Spring: comfortable days, cool water

March and April both average 24°C by day, making spring a good fit if you want warmth without the stronger summer heat. April has fewer rain days than March, so it is the better choice if keeping outdoor plans flexible would be a nuisance. By May, days average 26°C and rain becomes less frequent again. Light clothing should suit the daytime, but keep a layer handy after sunset: nights remain cooler than the afternoons suggest. The catch is swimming. The sea averages 17°C in March and April and only reaches 18°C in May, so warm air does not mean warm water.

Summer: dry weather, with hotter afternoons

June offers a useful balance: daytime warmth of 29°C, cooler nights than high summer and very little reason to plan around rain. July and August both reach a daytime average of 32°C, making them better suited to travellers who enjoy heat and can take a break around midday. July has the most sunshine, while August is the hottest month by a small margin. Plan more active time for the morning or later afternoon, and carry sun protection. Even at summer's peak, the sea averages 20°C, so swimming is likely to feel refreshing rather than particularly warm. Evenings are warmer than in spring.

Autumn and winter: lingering warmth, then cooler evenings

September is a good alternative to peak summer if you want less daytime heat without cooler water: days average 29°C and the sea stays at 20°C. October keeps that sea temperature while afternoons ease to 27°C, though rain becomes more likely. November still suits daytime outdoor plans at 24°C, but evenings call for an extra layer. December and February average 21°C by day, with January slightly cooler at 20°C. These winter months suit travellers seeking mild afternoons rather than dependable swimming weather. Pack light clothes alongside warmer evening layers and something for showers. December has the most rain, while February has the coolest sea at 16°C. Winter sunshine remains useful, but there is less of it than in summer.
