Your April weather guide
April is a good month for Mexico if you want hot days and warm sea swimming, though your choice of destination matters. Country averages sit at 29°C by day and 26°C in the sea, with 6 rainy days suggesting some flexibility is sensible. Puerto Vallarta suits travellers who prioritise dry weather and cooler evenings. Cancun, Tulum and the Riviera Maya offer warmer water, but rain is more frequent and nights stay warm.

Within 1.5°C of Mexico's April daytime average: Kuala Lumpur (30°C), Koh Samui (30°C, sea 30°C), Montego Bay (30°C, sea 27°C), Phuket (30°C, sea 30°C), Mombasa (30°C, sea 29°C). See the full ranking for April.
Puerto Vallarta is the strongest choice here if avoiding rain matters most. April averages just 1 rainy day, so weather is less likely to interrupt outdoor plans than in the other destinations listed. The catch is daytime heat: at 30°C, it is also the hottest option. Plan active outings for the cooler parts of the day and leave room for shade around midday. Nights average 19°C, giving you more relief from the heat than Cancun or Tulum; a light layer may be useful when sitting outside. The sea averages 24°C, suitable for a cooling swim but noticeably cooler than the water around the Riviera Maya.
For warmer sea swimming, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, the Riviera Maya and Tulum are the better fit, with water averaging 27°C. Daytime temperatures are closely matched: Tulum reaches 29°C, while the others average 28°C. That small difference is not a strong reason to choose between them. More important is the shared pattern of 24°C nights and 7 rainy days: expect little evening cool-down and keep outdoor plans flexible. These averages do not tell you how long rain will last, so avoid assuming either constant sunshine or whole days lost indoors. Light clothing makes sense throughout the day, while a compact rain layer is a practical addition to your bag.
