Late autumn and winter: pack for rain and cool evenings
From November to March, plan around cool days and the possibility of rain rather than long spells outdoors in light clothing. November averages 14 rain days, so a waterproof jacket is more useful than relying on an umbrella alone. December's daytime average of 13°C slips to 12°C in January and February, with February nights averaging 7°C. Bring layers you can keep on after sunset and shoes suitable for wet conditions. March improves to 14°C by day, but it still averages 11 rain days: the change towards spring is gradual. With the sea at 14°C in February and March, this period does not suit travellers looking for comfortable, lingering swims.
Spring into early summer: June makes the strongest all-round case
April is mild rather than warm, averaging 16°C by day and 11°C at night. A light jacket and a rain layer still earn their place in your bag, especially with 11 rain days on average. May feels more suited to spending time outdoors in lighter clothing: days reach 20°C, though the 19°C sea can still feel brisk. It is a sensible choice if swimming is secondary to comfortable daytime weather. June brings a clearer shift towards summer, with 24°C days, a 23°C sea and just 5 rain days on average. That combination makes it particularly useful for travellers who want regular swims without the higher daytime and overnight temperatures of July and August.
High summer and autumn: warm seas, then a wetter turn
July and August suit travellers who put swimming and sunshine first. Both average 27°C by day, so keep more active plans away from midday and allow time in the shade. July has the fewest rain days, at 3, while August has the warmest sea at 26°C and nights averaging 22°C: do not expect much evening coolness. September is a useful compromise if you prefer less daytime heat, with air and sea both averaging 24°C. The catch is its 9 rain days, making outdoor plans less dependable than in June. October remains mild at 20°C by day, and its 22°C sea retains warmth, but 10 rain days mean you should leave room to change plans.
