Ferragudo weather by month

June to August is the best time to visit Ferragudo for hot, mostly dry weather, with daytime averages rising from 27°C to 30°C. September is a good alternative if you prefer less heat, while the sea stays at 20°C. Spring suits travellers who put time outdoors ahead of swimming. The catch is that warm air does not always mean warm water, and winter needs flexible plans for rain and cool evenings.

The climate here is within a degree of Algarve, so if you are choosing between the two, the weather will not decide it for you.

Winter into spring: mild afternoons, cool water

January and February both average 16°C by day, so winter suits travellers happy with mild afternoons rather than beach heat. Nights of 8°C in January and 9°C in February make a jacket useful. March reaches 19°C, but its 8 rain days mean you should keep outdoor plans flexible. April edges up to 20°C, then May brings a more noticeable lift to 23°C with 8 hours of sunshine. May is the better spring choice for warmth, though evenings still call for a layer. Swimming is the compromise: the sea is 15°C in February and March, 16°C in April and only 17°C in May.

Summer: the strongest choice for dry, hot days

June offers summer warmth without the highest daytime averages: 27°C, 11 hours of sunshine and just 2 rain days make it a strong choice for being outdoors. The sea is still a cool 18°C, so do not assume it will match the warmth on land. July and August both average 30°C by day and 19°C at night, favouring light clothing and a break from the heat around midday. July is the driest choice, averaging 0 rain days, although that is not a guarantee of uninterrupted dry weather. August averages 1 rain day. The sea reaches 20°C in both months, making them better choices for swimming than early summer.

Autumn into December: lingering sea warmth, more rain

September keeps much of summer's warmth, with 27°C afternoons and a 20°C sea, but its 4 rain days make it less reliably dry than June. October is a useful compromise for travellers who dislike hot afternoons: days average 23°C and the sea remains at 20°C. The catch is the rise to 8 rain days, so leave room to change plans. November cools to 19°C by day and 12°C at night, with the sea down to 18°C. By December, daytime averages of 16°C and 4 hours of sunshine favour shorter outdoor spells rather than beach days. Pack layers and rain protection; December also averages 8 rain days.
