Bali weather by month

Bali is best for outdoor holiday plans from July to September, with August and September the strongest choices. August averages 26°C by day, 6 hours of sunshine and 12 rainy days, so the catch is that even the driest period is not reliably rain-free. Temperatures change little through the year; sunshine and rainfall make the bigger difference. Choose the wetter months if warmth matters more than clear skies, and keep your daily plans flexible.

January to April: warm, but rain shapes your plans

January is the hardest month for weather-dependent plans, with rain on 28 days and just 2 hours of sunshine daily. February and March remain wet, although March offers a little more sunshine. April is an improvement rather than a clean break: rainy days fall to 20 and sunshine rises to 4 hours. Daytime averages stay at 28°C throughout this period, so wet weather does not mean cool weather. Nights are warm too, making light clothing more useful than heavy layers. Pack rain protection and footwear you do not mind getting wet. This period suits travellers who can rearrange outdoor plans rather than needing dependable sunshine.

May to September: more sunshine, with some rain still likely

May marks a more useful shift for outdoor holidays: sunshine reaches 6 hours daily, while rainy days fall to 15. June keeps that sunshine with slightly cooler days, and July brings daytime averages down to 26°C. August and September offer the fewest rainy days, at 12 each, making them the strongest choices for spending time outside. The sea is cooler than in the wet season, averaging 26°C from July to September, but still warm enough to make swimming appealing. Choose this window if sunshine matters more than the warmest sea. Keep sun protection and a light waterproof handy; the better weather does not remove the chance of rain.

October to December: outdoor plans need more flexibility

October is a compromise month, with 5 hours of sunshine and 16 rainy days. It offers more scope for outdoor time than the wetter months, but less consistency than August or September. November shifts further towards wet weather, with 21 rainy days and 4 hours of sunshine. By December, rain occurs on 26 days and sunshine falls to 2 hours, making it a weaker choice for a sunshine-led holiday. Daytime averages remain at 28°C throughout, while the sea warms towards 29°C in December. Pack for warmth and rain together, and avoid making every day depend on clear skies. Evenings stay warm rather than providing much cooling relief.
