Spring: comfortable days, but swimming takes patience
March is better suited to time outdoors in layers than a swimming holiday: days average 15°C, nights 12°C and the sea remains cool. April brings daytime temperatures of 17°C and fewer wet days, making it a more comfortable choice if you prefer mild weather to summer warmth. May is the clearest step towards summer, with days at 20°C, just 2 rainy days on average and 10 hours of sunshine. The catch is the sea, still only 18°C. Choose May for brighter days and comfortable temperatures on land, but pack a layer for evenings and do not expect warm-water swimming.
Summer into September: the strongest swimming weather
June offers a useful balance: daytime averages of 24°C, nights at 21°C and a sea temperature of 22°C. July and August are warmer, both averaging 26°C by day, with the sea at 24°C. These are the best choices if sunshine and swimming matter most; plan shade breaks around midday and bring light clothing for warm evenings. June, July and August average 0 rainy days, though that is not a promise of completely dry weather. September remains a strong alternative, with daytime temperatures easing to 24°C while the sea stays at 24°C. Its average of 1 rainy day means the shift towards autumn is still fairly gentle.
Autumn and winter: lingering warmth, then wetter days
October still suits travellers who want mild days rather than summer heat: daytime and sea temperatures both average 21°C, with 4 rainy days. November is cooler at 18°C by day, and rain becomes more frequent, so leave room for weather-dependent plans. December drops to 14°C, with 10 rainy days and just 4 hours of sunshine. January and February both average 13°C by day and 10°C at night, making layers and a waterproof more useful than beachwear. January is the wetter choice, averaging 11 rainy days against February's 9. Winter suits a trip where swimming and long sunny days are not essential; for reliable outdoor comfort, the warmer months are the better fit.
